Sue Orsillo is Head of Education at the American Psychological Association. She is a licensed clinical psychologist who got her degree from the University of Albany, State University of New York in 1993 and she completed both her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the National Center for PTSD Behavioral Sciences Division in the Boston VA Healthcare System. Sue joined the APA staff in 2021 as Senior Director of Psychology Education and Training. Before that time, she worked as an educator, clinician, and researcher in several settings. Most recently, she was a Professor of Psychology at Suffolk University where she held several administrative roles including Director of Clinical Training and Director of Undergraduate Studies and Curriculum. Previously she was a Research Psychologist and supervisor of interns and postdoctoral fellows at the Women’s Health Sciences Division of the National Center for PTSD in Boston. Before joining APA, Dr. Orsillo also led an active, funded clinical research portfolio focused on studying the nature, causes, prevention and culturally responsive treatment of anxiety and related clinical problems. She has published several books and over 150 journal articles and chapters on these topics. More recently, Dr. Orsillo’s funded research has focused on the dissemination and propagation of APA educational policies and methods of engaging community college educators and students in disciplinary societies.
